Yo (Love is a Rebellious Bird)
After the loss of her friend Yo, Anna devotes ten years to building a meticulous 1/3-scale replica of Yo’s house, just large enough for her to enter. Inside, a puppet of Yo inhabits the space, allowing Anna to reimagine and relive their connection. Blending vérité footage from Yo’s final year with Anna’s creative reenactments of Yo’s extraordinary life, the film explores themes of memory, grief, and the enduring impact of friendship and artistic expression.
No strangers to Woods Hole audiences, co-directors Anna Fitch and Banker White won the Audience Award for Best Personal Documentary Feature at the 2013 Woods Hole Film Festival for The Genius of Marian.
Their latest work continues that legacy of excellence, earning the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, one of the festival's highest honors.
