Leaving Angola
Filmed over seven years inside Louisiana’s Angola prison, the film follows the relationship between a lifer turned inmate pastor and mentor and a young father preparing for release through a re-entry program. As one man offers hard-won wisdom and trade skills, their bond becomes a lifeline for both—one seeking freedom, the other offering hope from within prison walls.
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature and the Karen Schmeer Excellence in Documentary Film Editing Award at the 2026 Independent Film Festival Boston.
